The Sword and the Shield

The Knight of the Flame is the Arm of the Sword--the one who destroys the enemies of the Pride.
The Knight of the Winds is the Arm of the Shield--the one who protects the Pride by destroying threats from within.
You really shouldn't piss either of them off.
Technically they don't NEED to summon the Knights to use their SRS BSNSS weapons, but it looks so much more impressive when they do...

I want to draw a picture of the Sword and Shield together, I said. It'll be fun, I said.

...well it WAS fun. It was just also completely ridiculous. This is the most complicated coloring project I've done in ages. Dual-color gradients are pretty situational with my current coloring style, but I had to use a darker red gradient on Lance's over-armor to contrast with the scales, and then using single-color gradients for Pidge would've just looked weird... so ALL THE COLORS were used! I think it went pretty well...
Lance's armor was designed with much consultation with , who somehow managed to refrain from hopping a plane to come punch me in the mouth, even when I dropped "so you can't see his shoulders but I designed the armor there anyway is it okay?" on her. (Seriously, self, not making the shoulders visible? For FANTASY ARMOR? Nice job, you clearly have not learned a damn thing from World of Warcraft.) Pidge's is supposed to have a draconic aesthetic. MANY SPIKES.
The Magma Sword (which I believe was originally designed by ?) was more fun than any one weapon should be allowed to be. The Forest Shield, on the other hand... I'm not entirely sure what I was thinking when I decided I had to squeeze leaves into the middle of it. Pfft.
This is also my first shot at VF Lance. There are... a lot of lines on his face in his canonical design. O.o And they really only do what I think they're supposed to be doing about half the time. They did NOT work with my style... but I think I got him okay anyway, the eyes are pretty distinctive. (I was also told probably half a dozen times by certain people that HIS EYEBROWS NEEDED TO MATCH HIS HAIR. Come on, give me a little credit, I've got this. )
